Cardano is a blockchain platform that, in some ways, aims to improve on the design of the original blockchain. Cardano is an open source project that features a smart contract system as well as a new proof-of-stake algorithm. What makes Cardano unique from other blockchain platforms is their philosophy of engineering decisions toward a "philosophy of simplicity". The goal of this philosophy is to eventually reduce the total number of ways to interact with the chain to three: (1) stake, (2) spend and (3) vote.

The XRP blockchain is a public, open-source ledger of all XRP transactions. The blockchain is distributed network of computers that are constantly and automatically updated by the actions of users. Each node (a computer connected to the blockchain network) keeps a copy of the blockchain that it receives when it joins the network.
